Vampires

A little off topic maybe, but I am curious as to the whole Vampire craze. I am not much of a fantasy person (DH loves reading fantasy books - The Wheel of Time, Dark Tower Series etc) but I do enjoy a good Vampire story. Let's face it, they're always pretty sexy, dark and brooding, and, of all the underworld creatures, I think the most believeable.

I love the Blade Films, but somehow the whole True Blood & Twilight seems to have completely passed me by! So when all the hype about the New Moon film started, I decided to go and buy the Twilight books - Twilight, New Moon & Eclipseand the Twilight DVD. I have started Twilight - and I can't put it down! 3 nights in and I'm one third of the way into the book. If only I didn't have to go to work, or clean the house, or...

Vampire Diaries starts on Tuesday on ITV2, and it does (so far) sound fairly similar to the Twilight storyline. But I will be tuning in, determined not to miss out on this.

Saturdays & Lemon Cheesecake Ice Cream

Yep. its Saturday! And for the first time in what feels like ages I don't have anything I HAVE to do. However, with this comes the feeling that I should clean the house, and I want to do some knitting & sorting out to feel like I've regained some sense of normality after Christmas.

We've had one whole week back in work, so that's pretty much back to normal, but with the bizarre weather (and we haven't had it anywhere near as bad as some) there's still an unsettled feeling about. Plus I still have a mini pile of Christmas presents on the floor where the Christmas tree used to be, so I think it's time they went away (mainly to make space for my birthday presents on Tuesday!! Yay!)

We were meant to be having Christmas number 2 today with my sister who lives in London, but because of the stupid weather she hasn't come back from London. So instead me & hubby are going round to my parents house for a meal tonight. I'm in charge of pudding, and think I'm going to attempt a trio of puddings. The first being lemon cheesecake ice cream. Unfortunately as I don't have an ice cream maker I have to do it by hand. And as hubby is on the weight watchers plan, I am using weightwatchers recipes... so we'll see how it turns out. Just to decide what else to include.

The weightwatchers thing, while I am fully supportive, does not really help with my plan to cook the recipes from Rachel Allen's book as per last post, because... well, where's the fun in cooking for one person! I'll do my best, but it's likely to take a fairly long time...maybe I'll just work my way through the weightwatchers puddings. :)

Here's to a great 2010

As usual my new year's resolution will be to keep this blog up to date, as well as reading 52 books in 52 weeks, 52 projects in 52 weeks, exercising & eating well. It's always nice to have goals I guess... :)

I have just started reading Julie and Julia: My Year of Cooking Dangerously and am a little inspired to pursue a similar project. Not necessarily in a year, but to take time to try recipes I wouldn't normally. I was bought Rachel Allen's Home Cooking for Christmas and have already tried 2 recipes (Sticky Cumin & Apricot Roast Carrots, page 107; Cauliflower Cheese, page 128.) Plus have some pork marinading ready for lunch tomorrow. So far, so good.
